Urgent Call to Action for the Medical Aid in Dying Act

As we reported to you last week, there has been significant movement on the Medical Aid in Dying Act in Albany. We just learned that Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie will allow the Medical Aid in Dying Act to be voted on this week if the Senate will vote on it too. But, so far the Senate Majority Leader has not agreed to allow the bill to come up for a vote. If you have not yet done so, please call her office today at (518) 455-2715.

Here is an example script you can use:

My name is___ and I strongly support New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act (A995a/S2445a). I know that medical aid in dying is a compassionate end of life option and that in states where it is authorized it has greatly benefited patients and caused no harm to anyone. Why hasn't Senator Stewart-Cousins let this bill move in the Senate? She has the power to end needless suffering and provide comfort to thousands of New Yorkers with one decision: give the bill a fair hearing in the Senate. I implore her to change her mind and let the bill move before leaving Albany this week.

This is the last week before the legislature adjourns until January.

We also urge you to contact your representatives to voice your support for the bill. To identify your representatives, and view a sample letter/script to use, please click here.

We will provide updates as they become available. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions at info@eolcny.org.
