Description

In honor of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we invite you to join us for this important webinar.

Palliative care is treatment to prevent or relieve pain and suffering, and to improve a patient’s quality of life, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Palliative care can be provided alongside other treatments to anyone with a serious illness, such as chemotherapy or dialysis, even if a patient may get better. It’s not just for people at the end of life.

Palliative care is an important tool to improve quality of life for patients. However, there are unfortunately barriers and misconceptions that limit awareness of this service and prevent people from accessing it. Join us to learn about barriers to palliative care access from a Caribbean perspective, and how these barriers can be overcome.

Presenter

Dr. G. Lesley Reece is a Barbadian general practice and palliative care physician. She is currently the Assistant Medical Director of the Barbados Association of Palliative Care, and chairs their Education Committee. Dr. Reece is a fervent advocate of Palliative Care and uses innovative channels to educate others about the importance of this especially important, but largely underrated, area of medicine.

Dr. Lesley’s philosophical beliefs focus on the importance of ensuring the best possible quality of life for patients, as well as a general view that we should all strive to ensure that we are fully living, and not merely existing. It should be no surprise then that Dr. Lesley is also passionate about speaking, blogging or vlogging to remind others how to live instead of merely existing!
