Speaking Engagements

Our team of experienced speakers has given hundreds of presentations and trainings for senior centers, universities, non-profit organizations, houses of worship, social service agencies, hospice and palliative care programs, retirement communities, volunteer teams, medical institutions, advocacy groups, and other groups.

Presentations and Workshops for the General Public

We offer presentations on a variety of topics (see below for examples) for the general public as well as interactive workshops. Presentations and workshops may be tailored for the specific needs and interests of the community, e.g., for caregivers, a general overview of several areas or an exploration of a specific topic, focused on local resources. Our presentations are offered on Zoom or in-person if a team member is available in your area.

Our presentations typically include a lecture with slides with time allocated during and/or afterward for questions. Our workshops are designed to be interactive, and include facilitated conversations, space to openly share concerns and thoughts, and guided activities to reflect on what matters most. For example, a workshop on advance care planning may include the use of cards with prompts such as “what makes a good day?” to inspire reflection and conversation.

We recognize the topics we cover may be considered heavy. We strive to make all of our presentations and workshops engaging, approachable, conversational, and uplifting. We want all who attend to leave feeling educated, encouraged, and empowered to make the choices that reflect their values and receive care that aligns with their wishes.

Trainings for Professionals and Students

In addition to offering presentations and workshops for the general public, we also offer training for professionals and students in a variety of fields such as social work, medicine, public health, mental health, law, and public policy. As we have a diverse, interdisciplinary group of speakers, we will have a speaker with the same or similar professional background as the attendees conduct the training whenever possible, and/or a speaker with professional or lived experience relevant to the topic of the training.

We are recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers (SW-0464), and are therefore able to offer continuing education hours for New York social workers. We can also provide documentation of attendance/participation for other professionals upon request.

Our trainings cover a range of topics (see below) and are tailored to ensure they are relevant and meaningful for the program or profession of the attendees. Trainings may provide an overview of several topics, or a more comprehensive exploration of a specific area. The format of the trainings are flexible, and may include lectures, facilitated activities and discussion, and other educational methods. Trainings may be one-time events, multi-part series (when feasible and appropriate), or regularly scheduled events (e.g., annually).
