Some New Yorkers have no one they can appoint as an agent, and/or they have family members that they don’t trust that may be called to be a surrogate. In such cases, it is important to complete a living will or Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment. It is always important to share copies of your advance directives with your medical providers, and it is even more critical that you share copies of advance directives with your medical providers if you do not have someone that can serve as your health care agent.
