I started volunteering for End of Life Choices New York in 2009. Through my work in hospice and grief counseling, I had learned about the importance of providing education and support for people at the end of their lives and wanted to make sure others knew about their resources. End of Life Choices New York was the premiere organization in the state providing this kind of information and I was thrilled to be able to be a small part of the success of this organization.
Years later, I was honored to be chosen to be the Executive Director, working alongside amazing staff, consultants, volunteers and partner organizations who all want more choice, autonomy and respect at the end of their lives. I am honored to work to ensure that New Yorkers live in alignment with their own values and wishes, and that they have access to all available options to control their own bodies at the end of life.
End of Life Choices New York began as Compassion in Dying of New York in 1998, an affiliate of a larger national nonprofit based in Oregon. With an initial focus on client services, we evolved to provide education, advocacy and fundraising to support the expansion of laws and wider public awareness about end of life issues.
In 2014, we changed our name to End of Life Choices New York and formed an independent nonprofit with our own 501(c)3 status.
We also introduced The Medical Aid in Dying Act to the NY State Legislature and have continued to advocate for the passage of this bill. In 2022, our current Executive Director was hired. In 2025, we were successfully able to pass The Medical Aid in Dying bill through both houses (the Assembly and the Senate) in the NY State Legislature and we currently are waiting for Governor Hochul to sign the bill into law.
Join us for a monthly online experience to learn about what we do and introduce yourself to this organization.
Our Meet-n-Greets are free, one hour opportunities to get a taste of how we normalize conversations about death and dying while also learning about the work we are doing. We hope to inspire you to get involved in some way, whether through volunteering, spreading the word about our services or introducing us to more people.
